Saudi Arabia announced on Friday the postponement of the sixth UN Global Data Forum and the second Saudi Statistics Forum, originally scheduled to take place in the capital Riyadh from November 9 to 12, to the year 2027.
The Saudi General Authority of Statistics stated in a statement published via the American platform "X" that the postponement decision came "in coordination with the UN Statistics Division," confirming that the new date will be announced later through official channels.
Reasons for Postponement
The Authority clarified that the decision comes "based on the General Authority of Statistics' keenness to provide an experience that meets the aspirations of the data and statistics community, and to allow broad international participation from speakers, experts, and partners."
It pointed out that this will "enhance the expected impact of the UN Global Data Forum," while continuing the "Road to Riyadh" events aimed at strengthening joint efforts and exchanging global views and experiences in the field of statistical work.
Regional Context of Tension
The postponement announcement comes at a time when Saudi areas are facing missile and drone attacks, amid ongoing military escalation between the Kingdom and the Yemeni Houthi group, where the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced intercepting a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh.
The coalition spokesperson had previously announced the death of 19 people and the injury of 364 others due to attacks targeting Saudi airports, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha, with the airport subjected to 20 attacks since the beginning of October.
Background of the Conflict
These developments come amid ongoing military escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis since July last year, coinciding with intensified fighting between the group and government forces in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition to support the Yemeni government since March 2015.
