Saudi Arabia reaffirms support for Syria's recovery and reconstruction efforts
Saudi Arabia pledges support for Syria's recovery, reconstruction, and voluntary return of refugees.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for Syria's efforts in recovery and reconstruction, and for creating the necessary conditions for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees. This came in a statement conveyed by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Wednesday, quoting the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Abdul Mohsen bin Khathila, during the meetings of the seventy-seventh session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

For its part, the Kingdom praised the cooperation between the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and the UNHCR in rehabilitating homes and sheltering returning families during the upcoming winter season. It called for supporting the sustainability of return, enhancing livelihoods, and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and supporting the UNHCR's efforts to protect refugees and uphold their dignity, emphasizing the importance of burden-sharing and supporting host countries.

The Representative added that the Kingdom achieved second place globally and first place among Arab countries among donor nations providing humanitarian and relief aid in 2025. He pointed out that the Kingdom attaches special importance to linking humanitarian and developmental work, ensuring the fulfillment of urgent needs and building the foundations for stability and recovery, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting the UNHCR in carrying out its noble mission.

In the same context, data from the UNHCR, published on August 12, showed the return of approximately 1.72 million Syrians to the country. This comes as an indicator of the expanding return movement, while a new phase emerges for returnees concerning restoring their lives, securing housing, livelihoods, and access to basic services.
