The Aleppo Directorate of Education and Teaching opened a school in Shqatin in the western countryside of the governorate today, Tuesday, after completing its restoration and rehabilitation works in cooperation with the "Basmat Amal" Foundation. This opening follows the school being out of service for about seven years due to shelling by the tyrannical regime.
Salah al-Din Hawa, head of the Planning and International Cooperation Department at the Aleppo Directorate of Education, clarified that the restoration works included rehabilitating five classrooms, the administration room, and sanitary facilities, in addition to constructing a new classroom. He pointed out that the school's capacity is about 300 students, noting that the reopening responded to educational needs in the area.
For his part, Muhammad Haritani, programs director at the Basmat Amal Foundation, explained that the foundation carried out the rehabilitation works in coordination with the Directorate of Education, including repairing walls and classrooms, and rehabilitating electricity, water, and sewage networks. He confirmed that work on similar projects continues in several Syrian governorates.
For her part, school director Yula Abdou noted that the school remained out of service for about seven years after being shelled, depriving the village's children of studying there. She explained that its reopening coincided with the return of residents to the area, amid an increasing number of families returning to their villages.
Last August, the Aleppo governorate opened 134 schools in the city and its countryside after completing their restoration and rehabilitation works. Meanwhile, about 1,950 schools in the governorate still require restoration works, according to governorate data.
