Search teams from the naval forces of the Ministry of Defense, after six days of search operations, in cooperation with rescue teams, civil defense, and technical services, recovered the body of one of the two missing persons due to the floods that hit the city of Tal Abyad in the countryside of Raqqa. Efforts continue to find the second missing person.
The director of the Tal Abyad area, Mahmoud Al-Sheikh, told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on Monday that search and rescue operations began immediately after the collapse of the Al-Salmani bridge late Wednesday evening. Specialized teams moved to the site to participate in rescue operations and search for the missing persons. Continuous efforts resulted in finding the body of one of them after six days of searching.
In the same context, Al-Sheikh stated that the floods led to the disappearance of two people, in addition to the death of another person in a road accident. He noted that the area administration provided the necessary facilitations to the participating teams to ensure the continuation of search operations and provide their requirements.
For his part, Operations Commander at the Raqqa Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management, Abdul Jawad Abdul Karim, in a similar statement, indicated that teams continue to search for the second missing person in the water surface of Lake Tal Abyad, despite difficulties caused by poor underwater visibility, accumulation of muddy and rocky sediments, and the spread of aquatic weeds.
The governorates of Raqqa, Al-Hasakah, and Deir Ezzor, along with areas in the countryside of Homs, Hama, and Aleppo, witnessed recent days of thunderous rainfall accompanied by strong winds, which caused floods, flash floods, river flows, and the disruption of several roads.
