Israeli settlers attacked a European diplomatic delegation and vehicles belonging to diplomatic missions in the village of Tuba, east of Ramallah in the West Bank, on Saturday evening.
The Palestinian News and Information Agency "Wafa" quoted local sources as saying: "Masked Israeli settlers carrying clubs attacked the delegation as it was leaving the village, smashed the windows of a vehicle belonging to the Belgian Consulate, and demanded that diplomats and passengers show their ID cards," while video clips showed one of the consuls being thrown to the ground.
Palestinian Foreign Ministry: The attack reflects the escalation of settler violence
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs condemned the attack in the strongest terms, clarifying that the settlers intercepted a group of diplomats, including the French and Belgian ambassadors, a representative from Poland, other diplomats, alongside representatives of the Catholic Church, noting that the attack targeted a French mayor and caused damage to a Belgian vehicle.
The Ministry affirmed that the attack is additional evidence of the escalation of organized settler attacks targeting Palestinians, their lands, and properties, sparing neither international supporters, diplomats, journalists, nor religious figures, with the aim of intimidating them and obstructing the performance of their duties and conveying the truth about Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.
The Ministry held the Israeli occupation government, in its capacity as the occupying power, fully responsible for these attacks and their repercussions, considering that the continued absence of international accountability encourages the commission of further violations and their escalation.
Call for international action to protect the Palestinian people
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs stressed that settler attacks are not isolated incidents, but are linked to the settlement system and policies of land seizure and the displacement of Palestinians, in violation of international law and resolutions of the UN Security Council.
The Ministry called for urgent and effective international action to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, halt settlement and forced displacement, end the Israeli occupation, and guarantee the Palestinian people's right to freedom, dignity, self-determination, and the establishment of their independent state with sovereignty on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Palestinian villages in the West Bank are subjected to continuous attacks by settlers, and these attacks have recently escalated in conjunction with the olive harvest season, which began in early October and constitutes a primary source of livelihood for thousands of Palestinian families.
