Assault on Civil Defense Crew
The Palestinian Civil Defense announced on Friday that one of its members was injured with bruises following a settler attack on its crew while extinguishing a fire set by settlers on three vehicles in the town of Tarmasiya in the central West Bank. The Civil Defense stated in a statement that settlers attacked a crew belonging to it as it was heading to extinguish a fire that affected three vehicles in the town of Tarmasiya north of Ramallah.
Vehicle Arson and Violent Assault
The Civil Defense clarified that settlers assaulted the crew members after they arrived at the fire scene, resulting in one of its members being injured with bruises and the burning of one of its vehicles. It considered that targeting its crews and vehicles while performing their humanitarian duty "constitutes a direct threat to efforts to protect lives and property and respond to emergencies."
Escalation of Attacks During Olive Season
Earlier on Friday, local sources told Anadolu that Israeli settlers attacked olive pickers and burned three Palestinian vehicles in the Al-Nab'at area in the town of Tarmasiya. This came within the framework of attacks launched by settlers on farmers and olive pickers in various areas of the West Bank on Friday, resulting in the injury of at least seven people, including an American journalist, in the towns of Tarmasiya, Abu Falah, and Barqa north and east of Ramallah.
Context of Escalating Violence
The attack comes amid an escalation in settler terrorism in the West Bank, coinciding with the olive harvesting season, amid fears of preventing Palestinian farmers from accessing their lands and harvesting their crops. Since the start of the Israeli genocide war on the Gaza Strip in October/November 2023, attacks by the Israeli army and settler terrorism against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, have escalated.
