Hajin National Hospital in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside suffers from a shortage of medical services, staff, drugs, and equipment, limiting its ability to meet residents' health needs, as it is the only government hospital serving the city and wide surrounding areas.
Residents of Hajin city demand improvements to the hospital's situation, providing it with medical staff, drugs, and necessary equipment, emphasizing the need to develop its services to meet population needs, especially since many cannot afford treatment costs in private hospitals.
Rehabilitating departments and strengthening health staff
Deir Ezzor Health Director Nasr Al-Khalaf told SANA on Tuesday that the hospital faces challenges related to securing medical staff, completing department equipment, and providing drugs and medical consumables, noting that the Health Directorate is working to rehabilitate several departments, equip them with new facilities, and ensure continuous provision of drugs and necessary supplies to deliver health services.
Al-Khalaf pointed out that the Directorate contracted with 138 health staff members in the first phase, including doctors, technicians, nurses, and pharmacists, with additional contracts to follow to fill gaps in specialties and necessary staff, contributing to improving service levels for patients.
2,500 monthly services and shortage of specialist doctors
For his part, Hajin Hospital Director Mahmoud Al-Sheikh stated that the hospital currently provides approximately 2,500 services per month, noting that the shortage of specialist and resident doctors is among the most prominent difficulties facing its operation, limiting its ability to meet patient needs.
Al-Sheikh emphasized the need to strengthen medical staff and provide various specialties, enabling the reactivation of hospital departments and expanding the scope of services provided to residents.
Activating the hospital and expanding its services
Ayman Abdullah, a local resident, clarified that activating the hospital is a necessity for residents of Hajin and surrounding areas, given the wide geographical area it serves and the difficulty of accessing suitable alternative treatments.
For his part, Muhammad Nour pointed out the limited number of working departments in the hospital, calling for the provision of medical staff from various specialties to improve healthcare levels and alleviate patients' suffering.
The Deir Ezzor Health Director and a member of the Provincial Executive Council visited the hospital last March, reviewing its health situation and the challenges and difficulties hindering its work, emphasizing the importance of providing its essential needs to ensure good medical services meeting the area's population needs, such as basic medical equipment and supplies, in addition to supporting it with human resources in medical specialties.
