Signing of land purchase contracts begins for 18 March Customs in Daraa
Daraa province initiates land purchase contracts for the 18 March Customs in Daraa al-Balad.

Daraa province began, on Tuesday, signing contracts for the purchase of land required to establish the 18 March Customs in the Daraa al-Balad area, following a series of meetings with property owners to identify the required lands, evaluate them, and agree on purchase mechanisms, paving the way to complete the necessary legal and administrative procedures and move to the project implementation phase.

Daraa region director Muhammad Abu Dibbus clarified in a statement to a SANA correspondent that he was appointed to head a committee to identify the required properties, following a visit by the head of the General Authority for Ports and Customs, Qutaiba Badawi, to Daraa province, and the approval to open the 18 March Customs in the Daraa al-Balad area. He noted that the committee began its work after receiving the identification of the required lands from Damascus.

In the same context, Abu Dibbus indicated that the committee held an initial meeting to evaluate the lands and followed a series of procedures to determine their value, estimating the price of one dunum at five thousand US dollars. He added that the committee subsequently held several meetings with residents and property owners to discuss purchase mechanisms and reach understandings regarding the procedures followed.

For his part, Abu Dibbus stated that Dr. Tamim Suwaghi, deputy head of the General Authority for Ports and Customs for port affairs, held a meeting with land owners to listen to their inquiries and objections, affirming that there are no obstacles preventing the start of contracting procedures so far. He stressed that the process is conducted through sale and purchase with property owners and is not expropriation.

He added that the signing of land purchase contracts has already begun, noting that the payment mechanism involves settling 30 percent of the property value in the first stage, with the remaining amount to be paid upon completion of ownership transfer and real estate registration procedures. He emphasized the importance of completing procedures in a manner that preserves owners' rights and ensures they receive their dues according to the agreed mechanism.

Abu Dibbus pointed out that completing the signing of contracts, settling dues, and finalizing ownership transfer procedures will pave the way for starting work on the 18 March Customs in the coming period. He expressed hope that the procedures will be completed, the customs will be opened, and it will be put into service. The head of the General Authority for Ports and Customs, Qutaiba Badawi, and Daraa governor Anwar Taha Al-Zoubi had agreed on July 7 last year to reopen the old Daraa customs under the name 18 March crossing, in commemoration of the launch of the Syrian Revolution.
