Israel's ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter, announced during a meeting with the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington that the sixth round of talks between Israel and Lebanon will be held next week in the Italian capital, Rome.
According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Leiter said that the negotiations will take place on July 15 and 16 in Rome at the level of ambassadors, which was later confirmed by Israeli media.
Aoun rejects any meeting with Netanyahu, Israel continues the attack
President Joseph Aoun confirmed in a press interview that holding any meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "out of the question at all."
Aoun warned that the continuation of the Israeli occupation represents the main obstacle to a just and lasting peace and undermines the legitimacy of the Lebanese state.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on the other hand, indicated that he has not yet set a date for his new meeting with US President Donald Trump.
In addition, the Israeli occupation continued its attacks on the Lebanese areas and committed bloody violations that resulted in the death of a number of civilians in Nabatieh and Al-Fuqa, and the destruction of houses in Aitroun.
Salam discusses with the army commander the arrangements for field deployment
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held an important meeting at the Serail with Army Commander Brig. Gen. Rudolph Heikal, to discuss comprehensive logistical and military preparations for the implementation of the "Framework Agreement."
The meeting coincided with Tel Aviv's announcement of the start of the withdrawal of its forces from the two pilot zones specified in the agreement as a first step, as the talks focused on mechanisms to extend the control of legitimacy and the return of the army and security forces, as they are the cornerstone of stability in the south and guarantee the return of the people to their homes.
The "serial withdrawal" clause represents the real test of the implementation of the June agreement between Lebanon and Israel signed in Washington, as international bodies and the US side require the Lebanese army to be fully prepared to fill any military vacuum immediately after the withdrawal of Israeli forces in order to prevent the collapse of the truce, amid complex organizational challenges and pressures to prevent internal strife that President Aoun stressed has no place for its return in Lebanon.
The Minister of Information announces the preliminary toll of war losses
Lebanese Information Minister Paul Morcos revealed that preliminary official estimates of direct Lebanese losses as a result of Israeli attacks on Lebanon range between three and four billion US dollars.
These huge figures are limited to direct in-kind damage to infrastructure and residential buildings, Morcos said, not counting the accumulated general economic losses.
Lebanese economic sources indicate that the Lebanese economy is in a state of almost complete paralysis, and these shocking figures come to place the file of "reconstruction" and Arab and international financial support as a main item on the table of any future political negotiations, as the Lebanese president will focus during his upcoming summit with Trump on the need to oblige the international community to contribute to addressing the catastrophic damage left by the aggression on the southern towns.
