Social Affairs Begins Issuing Disability Cards in Maarat al-Nu'man
Maarat al-Nu'man's Social Affairs Department starts issuing disability cards with UNICEF to facilitate services.

The Social Affairs and Labor Department in Maarat al-Nu'man city, in southern Idlib countryside, began issuing disability cards today, Monday, to facilitate beneficiaries' access to designated services and rights. Department head Samer Qaddour explained that the issuance is a collaboration between the Idlib Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, the International Cooperation and Health Directorates, UNICEF, and coordinated with the Maarat al-Nu'man supervisory zone.

Qaddour noted that Idlib was the only governorate lacking disability cards for 14 years, emphasizing the importance of data registration to organize records and issue cards that facilitate holders' transactions with government institutions. A registration mechanism was established in coordination with community committees to gradually cover towns and villages, with approximately 200 persons with disabilities registered so far.

For his part, Saeed Daadoush confirmed that issuing the cards facilitates access to health and social services, while Ayman al-Jadi pointed out their importance in enabling persons with disabilities to benefit from rights and advantages. The Idlib Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor had begun issuing the first disability card on the 4th of this month in Idlib city, for the first time since work on them stopped in 2011.

The process aims to expand issuance to cover all areas and countryside of the governorate, targeting men, women, children, and war-injured persons with disabilities. The disability card is an official document granting holders facilitations in accessing health, educational, and social services, while the Directorate continues to enumerate numbers in preparation for including them in the cards and facilitating their access to support and assistance.
