Social Insurance: 137,000 workers and 16,000 new establishments registered since liberation
Director announces registration of over 137,000 workers and 16,000 new establishments, with over 10,000 inspections to combat insurance evasion.

The director of the General Organization for Social Insurance, Hassan Khatib, announced the registration of 137,465 workers and 16,825 new establishments since the liberation of Syria in December 2024 until last September, in a move aimed at expanding the umbrella of insurance protection.

In the same context, Khatib clarified that the organization carried out 10,307 inspection visits to establishments during this period, and issued 59,218 decisions on seizure and lifting of seizure, as part of follow-up procedures for insurance obligations and enhancing the implementation of legal provisions.

Intensifying efforts to address the issue of insurance evasion

For his part, the director of the organization pointed to intensifying efforts to address the issue of insurance evasion through holding meetings and dialogue seminars with employers and workers, simplifying procedures and removing obstacles, alongside combating corruption hotspots that led to the loss of workers' rights.

He added that enhancing inspection visits contributed to expanding the umbrella of social insurance, thereby safeguarding the rights and obligations of the parties to the production process, enhancing the organization's revenues and its ability to meet its financial commitments, as well as improving the work environment, raising productivity, and supporting economic activity.

Legal amendments to enhance flexibility and harmony

He pointed out that the proposed amendments to the Social Insurance Law include setting controls to limit insurance evasion, defining clear objectives for the law, and enhancing its flexibility and clarity, thereby achieving a balance between the interests of the organization, retirees, and employers.

The General Organization for Social Insurance is responsible for applying the social insurance system for workers in both the public and private sectors, which includes pension and disability benefits, work-related injuries, and other insurance rights for contributors, under the harmony of national legislation with international conventions and treaties ratified by Syria.
