The General Social Insurance Institution announced the registration of 247 work injuries and 30 occupational diseases in various Syrian governorates since the beginning of the current year 2026, noting that most work injuries were concentrated in the Damascus countryside governorate due to the density of industrial establishments and factories there.
The institution clarified via its Telegram channel on Saturday that it handles and follows up on work injury and occupational disease files according to approved procedures, noting that some files are still being completed due to the need for medical and radiological reports and documents issued by competent health authorities.
The institution explained that the injury processing procedure begins by registering it with the Injuries Department, after which occupational health and safety inspectors follow up on the case and verify the circumstances of its occurrence, including injuries that occur during work or while commuting to or from it, provided there is no deviation from the route.
It mentioned that after completing the documents and issuing the final decision, and determining the entitled disability percentage, benefits are paid by the competent department after being countersigned by the Financial Supervision Authority, whether as a pension or compensation.
The institution emphasized the continuation of awareness and education programs in the fields of occupational health and safety, alongside periodic inspection tours conducted by occupational health and safety departments in its branches in the governorates, with the aim of raising awareness levels and enhancing the commitment of employers and workers to preventive measures, and reducing injuries and occupational diseases.
The goal of insuring work injuries and occupational diseases is to provide protection for covered workers by covering treatment expenses and determining entitled compensation based on the nature of the injury and the resulting disability percentage, while the Occupational Health and Safety Directorate at the General Social Insurance Institution carries out inspection and awareness tours at workplaces to identify risks and enhance compliance with occupational safety requirements.
