Spokesperson for Salma Hayek: The actress did not intend to harm anyone
A spokesperson for Salma Hayek denies her intention to harm anyone or open the plane door during a flight from Los Angeles to New York.

A spokesperson for American actress Salma Hayek, who was arrested last week, confirmed that the actress did not intend to harm anyone or open the plane door. A statement issued by the spokesperson repeated what was said in previous statements this week, noting that Hayek, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, experienced a medical emergency on board the flight from Los Angeles to New York.

The statement indicated that Hayek did not attempt to open the plane door as some media outlets reported, confirming: "There was no attempt to open the plane door. Salma did not intend to harm anyone." Last Monday, Hayek pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting a police officer who participated in her arrest at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, and a nurse at the hospital to which she was subsequently transferred.

For his part, a statement issued by the New York and New Jersey Port Authority Police Department stated that police received the plane upon its landing following reports of a "passenger committing physical violence," who was identified as Hayek. Police reported that two flight attendants reported injuries, and one of them was taken to the hospital.

The statement added that Hayek, 54 years old, suffers from a neurological condition known as pseudobulbar affect, which "directly affects the way the medical condition appears to people who do not know her." Representatives for Hayek said: "There are many more aspects to this story than have been published, and we ask for a full review of the facts before rushing to judgment, whether in the courtroom or in the court of public opinion."

Hayek is known for her roles in the films "Cruel Intentions" and "Hellboy," and she publicly spoke about her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2018.
