Start of preparations for a new electrical transformer at the Nawa substation in Daraa countryside
Electricity company workshops begin preparing a 30 MW transformer at Nawa station in western Daraa countryside to enhance power supply.

Workshops of the Syrian Electricity Company in Daraa governorate began, on Thursday, preparations for a new electrical transformer with a capacity of 30 megawatts at the Nawa substation in the western countryside of the governorate. This project aims to increase the station's capacity from 20 to 30 megawatts and enhance the reliability of electricity supply for residents of Nawa city and its surroundings.

For his part, Waleed Al-Mustafa, head of the operations department at Daraa Electricity Company, told SANA that the ongoing works include preparing the transformer and installing its parts and accessories. He indicated that technical tests will be conducted in the coming days, paving the way for putting the new transformer into service.

Al-Mustafa added that the increased demand for electricity in recent periods, due to house renovation works, urban expansion, and the restart of factories, necessitated efforts to increase the station's capacity. This comes to meet growing needs and improve the reality of electricity supply in the area.

The station supplies around 150,000 people

Nawa Electricity Station head Ghasan Abu Suweid, in a similar statement, clarified that the station supplies around 150,000 people in Nawa city and surrounding areas. He pointed out that increasing its capacity aims to meet the growing needs of residents, especially with the return of displaced persons to their areas.

Abu Suweid explained that preparations for the winter season constitute one of the important factors for increasing the station's capacity, given the rise in electrical loads compared to the summer season. He confirmed the continuation of work on preparing the new transformer and replacing the old one.

The works to expand the capacity of Nawa Electricity Station come within the framework of efforts aimed at improving the reality of electricity supply in western Daraa countryside. This comes amid increasing demand for energy due to the return of residents to their areas, house renovations, urban expansion, and the resumption of industrial activity.
