The General Company for Drinking Water and Sewerage in Hama Governorate, in cooperation with the organization 'Action Against Hunger', began today, Saturday, implementing a project to rehabilitate the main drinking water lines and equip the sewage network in Al-Jalama village in the countryside of the governorate. This project aims to improve services provided to approximately 5,000 residents and address problems related to weak water access for people in the area.
Infrastructure rehabilitation works
Ahmed Ismail, head of the Mahardah water unit, clarified in a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the technical works include maintaining main water lines with a total length of 124 meters, and diameters ranging between 63 and 140 millimeters. He added that the project involves installing six new valves, and executing a water line supplying the Al-Kadiro farm belonging to the village, and another serving its southern section to improve drinking water supplies.
Sewage network development
For his part, Ismail indicated that sewage works include creating new manholes and maintaining four other manholes, with installing iron covers for them. He pointed out that these measures aim to improve the technical and service readiness of the network in the village, thereby contributing to raising the efficiency of health and environmental services for the residents.
Water reality and residents' needs
Onad Al-Mohammad, a member of the community committee in Al-Jalama, described the reality of drinking water in the village as poor, explaining that the network requires rehabilitation, maintenance, and expansion. He pointed out that water reaches only a small number of residents, due to the lack of a serviceable tank and difficulties in pumping water directly to homes.
Previous projects in the area
Al-Jalama village witnessed last September the implementation of a water project that included installing a submersible pump with a discharge of 60 cubic meters per hour and a lift of 90 meters. The project also included installing conduits and electrical cables, and a solar energy system comprising 56 panels with a capacity of 720 watts per panel, and an inverter with a capacity of 30 kilowatts, in addition to a system for washing panels and operating the chlorination disinfection pump and rehabilitating the pumping room.
