Maintenance and rehabilitation works for the Daraa-Al Muzayrib road in western Daraa countryside began today, Sunday, as part of the annual investment plan of the General Establishment for Road Transport, at a cost of 70 million Syrian pounds and a duration of 120 days, aiming to improve the technical condition of the road and enhance traffic safety. The current works cover a section of approximately 5 kilometers out of the road's total length of 11 kilometers.
Implementation Details
Supervisor of rehabilitation and maintenance works at the Daraa branch of the General Establishment for Road Transport, Daif Allah Al-Hasan, stated in an interview with SANA that the road constitutes a vital artery connecting the city of Daraa with the western countryside. He explained that the works involve milling the road, applying a tack coat, followed by two layers of asphalt concrete, in accordance with contract clauses and approved technical specifications.
For his part, Engineer Afif Al-Zoubi, Director of the Southern Region Branch of the Syrian Establishment for Construction and Building, indicated that the width of the targeted section is 11 meters, with work organized on two lanes of approximately 5.5 meters each, allowing for traffic organization and reducing risks for road users during construction.
Quality Tests
Al-Zoubi noted that the asphalt concrete used in the project is produced at the Tel Arar Production Plant belonging to the branch, according to specified conditions and technical standards, highlighting intensified efforts by workshops to complete the works within the scheduled timeframe. He clarified that the total thickness of the asphalt concrete layer is 8 centimeters, and the materials used are subject to laboratory tests in the branch's laboratories.
He added that tests are conducted after the completion of works to verify the quality of the asphalt layer, measure compaction degrees, and determine the bitumen content in the asphalt concrete, ensuring the project meets required technical standards.
Citizens' Aspirations
Citizen Bassam Al-Bardan pointed out that the road suffered from poor technical conditions, causing traffic difficulties and increasing accident risks, especially for owners of civil and agricultural machinery. He expressed hope that rehabilitation works would facilitate movement, improve traffic flow, and reduce accidents.
Al-Bardan called on drivers to reduce speed, adhere to safety procedures, and exercise caution while driving, especially during the construction period. The maintenance and rehabilitation works of the Daraa-Al Muzayrib road fall within the efforts of the General Establishment for Road Transport to improve the technical condition of central roads and enhance their efficiency, thereby facilitating movement between the city of Daraa and its western countryside.
