A survivor of an armed attack targeting a church in the Jordanian Karak governorate revealed the details of the first moments of the assault, which occurred during funeral rites, stressing that what happened was painful and shocking and contradicts the values of Jordanian society. Ghayth Al-Halasa told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that armed men ambushed the mourners and opened fire, resulting in deaths and injuries and deep pain in the hearts of survivors and the families of the victims.
Al-Halasa added that the shock was great at first, as those present did not believe the sounds were gunfire, but thought parts of the old church were falling. He described the scene of blood and body parts as extremely painful and shocking, recalling the magnitude of the tragedy that struck the families, and confirming that the victims were relatives and kin, and that what unites the members of society is greater than any attempt to sow discord among them.
For his part, Omar Al-Qutaynah from the Marj area in Karak city confirmed that the people of the region received news of the attack with great sorrow, stressing that this assault is alien to the nature of society in Karak and Jordan in general, where there is no discrimination between Muslims, Christians, and other components of society. Qusay Ahmad Musa Al-Qatamneh expressed his deep sadness, confirming that members of Jordanian society view each other as brothers and children of one homeland.
Murad Al-Obeidat pointed out that news of the attack raised great sadness and pain, as it represents a threat to the security of the country and the safety of its people. He stressed solidarity with the families who lost loved ones or had members injured, calling for the accountability of those responsible for the attack according to the law and judicial procedures. The Jordanian General Security Directorate had announced the death of seven people and the injury of 34 others as a result of the shooting inside the church.
In the same context, Al-Halasa recalled the speed of the residents' response, who rushed to help the injured and stood by the wounded and the families of the victims, expressing his gratitude and appreciation for these attitudes that reflected the spirit of solidarity and mutual support in Jordanian society. The repercussions of the assault continue on the humanitarian level, while the testimonies of survivors reflect the magnitude of the shock left by the attack.
