Syria and Jordan agree to form a joint security committee to investigate details of recent operations
Damascus and Amman agree on a joint committee to investigate the Jordanian shelling and review security coordination mechanisms.

Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi agreed to form a joint security committee to ascertain all details and facts of the recent operations, follow up on their repercussions, and develop field and intelligence coordination mechanisms to deal with terrorist threats, thereby ensuring the preservation of Syrian sovereignty and protecting the lives of innocent civilians.

The agreement came during a phone call received by Minister Al-Shibani from Minister Safadi on Tuesday, during which they affirmed the deep, distinguished, and historic fraternal relations uniting the two countries and their brotherly peoples, and their shared commitment to enhancing and developing these relations in various fields, and overcoming anything that could mar their clarity through frank and responsible fraternal dialogue, based on the firm conviction in the interdependence of the security of both countries and their shared destiny.

Official Reactions

Safadi stressed Jordan's full respect for Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, stability, and the safety of its citizens, affirming that Jordan's security is part of Syria's security and stability, and expressing his country's pride in the historic fraternal relations between the two countries and their brotherly peoples, which have reached unprecedented levels of close and tight cooperation and coordination. The two ministers discussed the repercussions of the bombing operations carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces yesterday against sites belonging to the "ISIS" terrorist organization, which Safadi confirmed were based on field intelligence and aimed at neutralizing confirmed threats and imminent terrorist operations targeting Jordan's security.

Condolences and Victims

Safadi expressed deep regret and sorrow over the casualties of innocent civilians during these operations directed against the "ISIS" organization, which poses a common threat to both countries, offering his sincerest condolences and sympathies to the brotherly Syrian people for the victims of these operations, wishing the injured a speedy recovery, and stressing Jordan's commitment to the safety of Syrian citizens as it is to its own citizens. Al-Shibani and Safadi affirmed that Jordanian-Syrian relations are witnessing close cooperation to face common challenges, foremost among them defeating terrorism and combating drug and arms smuggling operations across borders, through effective and sustainable institutional channels.

Condemnation of Violations

The two ministers stressed the importance of direct field and security coordination in their joint efforts to defeat terrorism and protect civilians, and to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and transparency, reflecting the strength and solidity of the fraternal relations between the two countries and their brotherly peoples. Syria expressed its condemnation and rejection of the Jordanian bombing operations that hit several sites in the governorate, and the accompanying violation of Syrian airspace without prior coordination, announcing work on forming an urgent joint field and security committee with Jordan, with the aim of putting an end to these violations and field transgressions and preventing their recurrence.
