The Syrian Ministry of Education and Higher Education participated in the Global Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) forum, held in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, to discuss ways to enhance educational recovery and localize responses, and activate the role of national institutions in leading educational efforts during the recovery phase, with the participation of relevant parties from the education and humanitarian sectors.
The Ministry stated via its Telegram channel on Wednesday that Hassan Al-Hussein, Director of Planning and Statistics, presented the Ministry's vision for educational recovery during a dialogue session, based on the "Recovery Priorities Statement," emphasizing the importance of transitioning from emergency and fragmented interventions to a sustainable institutional approach that enhances the resilience of the education system, empowers human resources, and directs international support towards building the capacities of national institutions.
Al-Hussein pointed out the importance of coordinating recovery efforts within national frameworks, ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of educational interventions, limiting the creation of parallel administrative and financial pathways, and contributing to enhancing the capacity of national institutions to respond to educational needs.
The Kenyan capital Nairobi is hosting the Global Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) forum from October 13 to 15, under the slogan "Working Together Better: Shifting Power and Transforming Systems," jointly organized by the Network, the Kenyan Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the University of Nairobi, with the participation of more than 200 delegates and participants from 40 countries.
The forum's discussions focus on enhancing the role of local actors in responding to crises, expanding their participation in decision-making, and directing resources towards affected communities, alongside calling for sustainable local financing for education, integrating refugees and displaced persons into national education systems, and supporting teachers in facing the repercussions of climate change and protracted crises.
It is noted that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education participated in the Global Education 2026 forum, hosted in the British capital London from May 17 to 20, by a delegation comprising Ministers of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research Muhammad Abdul Rahman Tarko and Marwan Al-Halabi, along with several assistants and officials, to discuss ways to modernize education and enhance digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the educational process.
Furthermore, a Syrian delegation from the Ministries of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research, along with representatives from the Syrian Chambers of Industry, visited Germany on October 3 to learn about the vocational and technical education experience, particularly the dual vocational education system and mechanisms for linking practical training to labor market needs, within the framework of cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
