Syria Rejects Jordanian Airstrikes on Daraa, Announces Joint Committee
Syria condemns Jordanian airstrikes on Daraa, announces a joint committee to prevent border violations.

Syria expressed its condemnation and rejection of the Jordanian airstrikes that targeted several sites in Daraa governorate yesterday, and the accompanying violation of Syrian airspace without prior coordination, which resulted in martyrs and wounded.

Syria announced it is working to form an urgent joint field and security committee with Jordan, aimed at putting an end to these violations and field transgressions and preventing their recurrence, thereby cutting off the path for anyone attempting to tamper with the security of both countries.

Foreign Ministry Statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated in a statement today: "In reaffirmation of the deep, historical, and firm brotherly relations between the Arab Republic of Syria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which have reached their best state of understanding and mutual concern for the interests of the two brotherly peoples, the Arab Republic of Syria follows with great concern and attention the recent security and field developments on the shared border."

The Foreign Ministry expressed Syria's rejection and condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the Jordanian airstrikes that targeted several sites in Daraa governorate yesterday, and the accompanying unacceptable violation and breach of Syrian airspace without any prior coordination, which resulted in the martyrdom of several individuals and the wounding of others.

Condemnation of the Targeting

It added: "In this regard, Syria reiterates its strongest condemnation and severe rejection of the treacherous and criminal targeting of Mar Georgios Church a few days ago, which constituted a blatant assault on religious and human values and a despicable attempt to undermine the cohesive Jordanian social fabric."

It continued: "While we offer our highest words of reverence and pride for the souls of the nation's martyrs, and extend our sincere condolences to their families and wishes for the swift recovery of the wounded, we emphasize that this field action is wholly and absolutely rejected, and cannot be accepted under any pretext, as it constitutes a clear violation of the principles of good neighborliness and Syrian national sovereignty."

Formation of the Committee

The Foreign Ministry clarified that Syria is fully convinced that there are suspicious parties striving to spoil the distinguished brotherly relations between the two countries, working to sow discord, tense the atmosphere, and ignite crises between the brothers.

It stated: "In reaffirmation of the wisdom of both leaderships and their absolute commitment to preserving this brotherly relationship, work is currently underway in direct coordination with the brothers in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to form an urgent joint field and security committee. This committee aims to put an end to these violations and field transgressions and prevent their recurrence, secure and protect the shared border between the two countries, and ensure complete security and field coordination, thereby cutting off the path for anyone attempting to tamper with the security of both countries and shed the blood of their sons."
