Omar Al-Husri, head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, announced on Wednesday the launch of direct and regular flights by Syrian Airlines to the German city of Munich, starting from November 12, 2026, alongside existing flights to Berlin.
Al-Husri stated in an interview with the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that launching these new flights represents an additional step in expanding the national carrier's presence in the German market and enhancing direct air connectivity between Syria and Europe. He noted that air transport between the two countries is not limited to the national carrier's flights alone.
He pointed out that other Syrian and German airlines operate flights from various German airports, which contributes to expanding travel options and facilitating the movement of the Syrian community, while reducing reliance on transit flights through intermediate airports. Meanwhile, the Authority is currently completing regulatory procedures to grant a new German airline operating approval to Syria.
Al-Husri affirmed that the Authority relies on a policy of diversifying carriers and expanding operational points, while supporting the presence of the national carrier, thereby enhancing competition, raising service levels, and providing broader options for travelers, within the framework of a comprehensive plan to reconnect Syria with the international air transport network.
The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport had announced two days ago the commencement of direct and regular flights by Syrian Airlines between Damascus and the German capital Berlin, starting from November 10 next, granting these flights special significance for the Syrian community in Germany.
