Road security patrols deployed across the Syrian Badia serve as a support for travelers by providing assistance when vehicles break down or in emergency situations, alongside their duties in regulating traffic flow, enforcing violations, and raising driver awareness.
The patrols of the Palmyra Road Security Department, under the command of the Syrian Badia Security, continue their work around the clock through fixed checkpoints and mobile patrols on main and secondary roads, responding to distress calls, enhancing traffic safety, and facilitating traveler movement.
Enforcing Violations and Assisting Travelers
Mohammed Ghazi Al-Sabbagh, head of the Palmyra Road Security Department, told SANA correspondents that patrols operate continuously to enforce violations and speed limits, raise driver awareness, and assist travelers in emergencies, noting that their presence has contributed to reducing traffic accidents.
Traveler Mohammed Al-Ramla told SANA that the presence and continuity of patrols, even during late-night hours, provide travelers with a sense of security and peace of mind. Hamid Mahmoud, traveling from Qamishli to Damascus, confirmed that patrol elements proactively assist broken-down vehicles and follow up on the needs of their owners.
For his part, driver Yasser Al-Darwish noted that speed enforcement and patrol deployment have positively impacted traffic flow and helped reduce accidents compared to previous periods. He also pointed out that road security elements played a crucial role in regulating traffic during the floods that affected the region.
The importance of these patrols on Syrian Badia routes, which connect several regions and governorates and witness active movement of travelers and trucks, is highlighted by the mechanical breakdowns or sudden weather conditions travelers may face, necessitating intervention and assistance.
Floods that affected Badia areas in recent days caused damage to several roads and bridges in the Palmyra region due to rising water levels and erosion of road edges, affecting traffic flow and prompting precautionary measures to ensure the safety of passersby, especially on the Deir Ezzor-Palmyra road.
