Bassem Dery, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Planning and Institutional Excellence, held discussions with Mahmuda Khan, Executive Director of the Canadian organization "Human Concern International," on ways to enhance joint cooperation and support recovery programs in Syria, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Dery pointed out the steps the Ministry is implementing, foremost among them restructuring, attracting talents, encouraging investment, activating the role of cooperatives, updating laws and legislation, as well as separating the Ministry's production, supervisory, regulatory, and service roles, and enhancing the private sector's participation in the production process.

Dery noted that these directions aim to raise the efficiency of agricultural land investment, increase production, and improve sector management, thereby contributing to achieving self-sufficiency, enhancing food security, and opening export horizons, alongside improving farmers' income, strengthening trust in the agricultural sector, and balancing the needs of producers and consumers.

For her part, Khan presented the organization's most prominent activities and projects since its establishment, and the target groups of its programs, emphasizing her commitment to aligning its interventions in the coming phase with the Ministry's vision, the government plan, and local community needs, thereby supporting sustainable recovery of the agricultural sector and enhancing coordination with relevant parties to implement projects that achieve tangible impact.

Earlier on Sunday, Quteiba Qadish, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with the Executive Director of the organization and the accompanying delegation to discuss national recovery priorities and mechanisms for developing joint developmental and humanitarian work paths.

The Canadian organization Human Concern International is the first and oldest Islamic relief organization in Canada, officially established in 1980 as a registered federal non-profit charitable organization with the Canada Revenue Agency.
