The Syrian Chambers of Commerce Federation organized, on Monday, a judicial seminar at the Bab al-Sabaa Hotel in Damascus, titled "Judicial Mediation and Arbitration in Syria: The Role of Arbitration Centers and Merchants in Enhancing Commercial Justice and Resolving Disputes."
The seminar was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice and Judge Khatam Haddad, Bar Association President Mohammad Ali Al-Taweel, Head of Judicial Inspection at the Ministry of Justice Counselor Ali Al-Maghribi, and a number of judges, lawyers, and economic figures.
Seminar Axes
The seminar included two main axes. The first covered regulations governing the operation and establishment of arbitration centers in Syria, as well as the importance of creating an international arbitration center to enhance investment confidence. The second axis focused on presenting the draft law on judicial mediation.
The Role of Arbitration in Economic Stability
President of the Chambers of Commerce Federation, Alaa Al-Ali, clarified that the path to recovery and rebuilding the national economy requires a modern and effective justice system that keeps pace with the requirements of the current stage and meets the aspirations of the commercial and investment sectors. Al-Ali affirmed the Federation's readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Justice and the Bar Association to enhance integration between judicial institutions and the commercial sector, serving the economic development process in Syria.
Integration of Institutions and the Commercial Sector
Arbitration forms one of the pillars of building a stable economic environment attractive to investment, especially in countries seeking to restructure their legal and economic systems. The role of arbitration centers in Syria stands out as an important tool for resolving disputes away from the complexities of traditional courts, thereby enhancing trust between investors and local entities.
The Ministry of Justice had previously organized the First National Conference on Judicial Mediation in Damascus on August 18, with the participation of ministers, officials, experts, judges, human rights activists, and members of the People's Council, to discuss the role of mediation in developing the justice system and activating alternative and flexible means for dispute resolution.
