Many Syrian families in the governorates of Daraa and Quneitra are experiencing anxiety and suffering due to the continued detention of their sons by Israeli occupation forces, and the lack of information regarding their detention locations and health conditions, despite repeated appeals to international organizations and relevant authorities to reveal their fate.
Details of Arrests and Appeals
Mehna Al-Baridi, a resident of Jumla town in the Daraa countryside and father of detainee Muhammad, told SANA that a patrol from the Israeli occupation raided his home on October 4, 2025, searched it for weapons, and then arrested his son Muhammad, aged 22, without any information about his fate so far. Al-Baridi clarified that the family has appealed to UN missions, the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), and the International Committee of the Red Cross, without obtaining information revealing their son's fate.
For her part, Rasha Hassan Zeiton, from Khan Arnaba town in the Quneitra countryside and mother of detainees Muhammad and Mahmoud Maryoud, stated that Israeli occupation forces arrested her two sons about a year ago, and the family still does not know their fate. She indicated that information reached the family stating that her sons were transferred between Israeli prisons, noting that both are 17 years old, and expressing her surprise at their continued detention at this age.
Families' Suffering and Impact of Detention
For his part, Hassan Saad Al-Din Ahmad, from Jabata Al-Khashab town in the Quneitra countryside, said his son Saddam has been detained by Israeli occupation forces since April 25, 2024, without the family being able to know his detention location or assure themselves of his health status. Ahmad clarified that the family has not received a clear answer regarding their son's fate, despite appeals directed to UN missions and the International Committee of the Red Cross, pointing out that the continued lack of information about detainees exacerbates the suffering of their relatives.
The demands from relatives of detainees continue for international organizations and relevant authorities to take action to reveal the detention locations of their sons, obtain reliable information about their health conditions, ensure their safety and rights, and work towards their release and reunion with their families.
Occupation Violations and the Syrian Position
The Israeli occupation continues to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through its repeated incursions into southern Syria, raiding civilian homes, assaulting and intimidating them, arresting them, leveling land, and carrying out shelling attacks. Syria continues to demand the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation from its territories, affirming that all measures taken by it are null and void, and carry no legal effect according to international law, while calling on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and compel Israel to withdraw completely from southern Syria.
