Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yasser Al-Barhouni met with his Saudi counterpart Mohammad Al-Jadaan in Bangkok to discuss ways to enhance financial and technical cooperation between the finance ministries of the two countries, and to prepare for signing agreements for the transfer of knowledge and expertise in areas of priority for Syria.
The Ministry of Finance stated via its Telegram channel on Saturday that the meeting addressed the economic and financial repercussions of geopolitical developments and current challenges, and ways to enhance coordination and cooperation between the two sides, in a manner that supports economic and financial reform efforts in Syria and contributes to consolidating recovery and development.
Prospects for Cooperation and Projects
The two sides also discussed the progress made in resuming the activities of regional financial and development institutions in Syria, which would enable financing for infrastructure projects, as well as prospects for cooperation with the Saudi Fund for Development. Minister Al-Barhouni expressed Syria's appreciation for the support provided by the Kingdom in regional and international forums, and for the efforts made to enhance economic and financial stability in Syria.
Supporting Reconstruction
For his part, Al-Jadaan affirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's support for the Syrian state's efforts in economic and financial reform, and accelerating the completion of studies for proposed projects for financing, expressing his welcome for the establishment of a credit fund to support reconstruction in Syria, given its role as a tool to support recovery and rebuilding efforts.
These consultations took place on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group held in the Thai capital, Bangkok. Minister Al-Barhouni had met on Friday in Bangkok with Sultan Abdul Rahman Al-Murshed, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, and senior officials at the Fund, to discuss ways to enhance developmental cooperation within the framework of the "Syria Without Camps" vision.
He pointed out the necessity of directing projects funded by the Fund towards multi-sectoral projects that contribute to creating appropriate conditions for the return of displaced persons from camps, a step reflecting shared interest in improving the living conditions of Syrians.
