The Consular Affairs Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued a decision exempting Syrian pilgrims and Umrah performers who failed to leave the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period from August 9, 2021, corresponding to 1 Muharram 1443 AH, until today, from paying fees incurred under Article (35) of the Residency System. This decision comes within the framework of continuous cooperation between Syria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
For his part, Director of the Consular Affairs Department in the Ministry, Mohammed Yaqoub Al-Omar, called on concerned parties on his Facebook page today, Thursday, to visit one of the following authorities during official working hours: the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Riyadh, the General Consulate in Jeddah, or the Hajj Office in Mecca. Omar specified the required documents for review, which are the passport, proof of performing Hajj or Umrah rituals, and the entry visa used to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Omar pointed out the necessity for citizens covered by the decision to visit one of the aforementioned authorities within a maximum period of one week from the date of this announcement, in order to register their names in the lists and submit them to the relevant Saudi authorities. This measure aims to regularize the status of citizens covered by the decision and facilitate their dignified return to Syria.
In the same context, the procedures focus on coordination with Saudi authorities to ensure the safe and organized exit of the cases exempted from late fines. This step comes as a humanitarian and administrative measure aimed at addressing long-standing accumulations related to the residency of pilgrims and Umrah performers who remained in the Kingdom after the expiration of their official visa periods.
