The Syrian-French Medical Conference kicked off today, Friday, at the Badia Al-Sham Hotel in Deir Ezzor Governorate. It is organized by the Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France in cooperation with "Mihad" and the "French Aid for Syria" organization. The conference aims to exchange medical, scientific, and academic expertise with doctors and health personnel in Deir Ezzor and the Jazira region, under the patronage of the Ministries of Health and Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
More than 800 doctors and specialists from within and outside Syria are participating in the conference, which features 160 lectures and peer-reviewed scientific papers, in addition to workshops and a medical campaign starting on Sunday and lasting four days to provide free consultations. A medical devices, equipment, and pharmaceuticals exhibition was also organized, with medical and pharmaceutical companies showcasing their products and supplies.
Minister of Health Masab Al-Ali clarified that the conference brings together a elite of Syrian and French doctors and researchers, contributing to the exchange of expertise, the development of medical practice, and the enhancement of optimal healthcare. He pointed out that holding the conference in Deir Ezzor carries significant meaning due to the governorate's suffering in recent years and the role of universities and civil society organizations in developing health services.
Al-Ali added that the number of functioning hospitals in the governorate has increased from 6 to 13, and the number of hospital beds from 268 to 520. The number of dialysis machines has risen from 27 to 57, operating rooms from 14 to 28, and natural childbirth centers from 6 to 10. He noted that the number of CT scanners has increased from 2 to 4, and dental services have expanded from one center to 14 centers.
For his part, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan Al-Halabi stated that the conference lays the foundation for a scientific and humanitarian partnership, affirming that the right to health is not bound by geography. He clarified that the ministry's vision is clear in transitioning from knowledge-based skills to sustainable partnerships, and from transferring knowledge to localizing it, ensuring quality care, patient safety, and the development of applied medical research.
Deputy Governor of Deir Ezzor Badri Al-Maslokh considered the conference a bridge for communication and a space for hope, and a step toward a better health future. He addressed the challenges the governorate faced during the years of the revolution, pointing to the governorate's aspiration for the conference to serve as a starting point for sustainable medical cooperation to improve health services.
For his part, Abdul Moneim Hamid, President of the Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France and President of the Conference, confirmed that this is the first conference in Deir Ezzor Governorate and the Syrian Jazira region since liberation. The Union is considered a syndical and scientific umbrella that brings together Syrian medical and pharmaceutical talents residing in France, aiming to support the health sector and enhance scientific and professional cooperation.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research had organized the first Arab-European Medical Conference in Damascus on October 26, 2025, in cooperation with the Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France, the Union of Syrian and Arab Doctors and Pharmacists in Austria, and the European Arab Medical Association.
