The first Syrian-German Medical Engineering Forum concluded its work today, Tuesday, in Damascus. Participants emphasized the importance of accelerating the preparation of a unified Syrian code for medical engineering and harmonizing the technical and operational standards adopted in health facilities, particularly in the fields of energy systems, medical waste management, and medical equipment maintenance programs.
For his part, Ahmad Al-Hamawi, a member of the board of directors of the Syrian Assembly in Germany, stressed in a statement to SANA the importance of qualifying new medical engineering graduates to enter the job market efficiently. He pointed to a recommendation to send outstanding students in this field to Germany to participate in specialized training courses for one month, as part of student exchange programs.
Al-Hamawi highlighted the importance of building sustainable academic cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which would contribute to providing scholarships and research fellowships for postgraduate students, equipping university laboratories with modern technical equipment, and developing partnerships with hospitals and specialized companies to practically qualify engineers.
Al-Hamawi stressed the necessity of keeping pace with modern European regulations regarding the licensing of medical devices (MDR), to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality for national equipment. He emphasized focusing on localizing technological knowledge and developing skills for maintaining complex devices, particularly endoscopes, ophthalmic surgery equipment, and MRI machines.
Al-Hamawi added the need to develop an action plan to transfer the experience of the forum and its training workshops to other Syrian governorates, starting with Aleppo. He called for intensifying exchanges of scientific and academic visits between both sides, which includes sending faculty members to German universities and institutes to learn about the latest technical developments and update curricula and study plans.
On its second day, the forum addressed study mechanisms in Germany, visa application procedures, and university admission requirements across various specializations. Dr. Muhammad Al-Isa from the Syrian Assembly in Germany presented the scholarship opportunities offered by German institutions, attracting wide interest from students and graduates keen on continuing their academic studies.
The forum also featured a training workshop on the latest technologies and methods for operating and maintaining modern endoscopic surgical devices, aiming to equip young cadres with direct practical experience. The forum's work began yesterday at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Damascus University, with the participation of academics and experts from Syria and Germany.
The Syrian Assembly in Germany is a non-profit community platform comprising academics, professionals, students, and artisans of Syrians residing in Germany. It aims to enhance communication with German society and contribute to development and reconstruction efforts in Syria.
