The Syrian Grain Authority signed a memorandum with Al-Jarqi to develop six mills to support food security.

The Syrian Grain Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with Al-Jarqi Investment Company to rehabilitate, develop, and operate six mills belonging to the Authority under the investment system (BOT), in a move aimed at updating the infrastructure of the grain sector to support food security in Syria.

The Authority clarified via its Telegram channel on Thursday that the memorandum includes rehabilitating existing and damaged facilities, updating production lines and equipment, improving energy consumption efficiency, in addition to operating, managing, and maintaining the mills according to technical standards ensuring production sustainability and quality.

The targeted mills include the Naseriyah and Ghazaliyah mills in the Damascus countryside governorate, the Salamiyah mill in Hama, and the Jablah, Latakia, and Coast mills in Latakia, with a total production capacity reaching 3,000 tons per day.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry for Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Maher Khalil Al-Hasan emphasized that the memorandum represents a qualitative step towards rehabilitating the food industrial sector, stressing the strategic importance of the grain sector and its pivotal role in achieving food security.

Director General of the Syrian Grain Authority Mohammad Tareq Al-Sayyadi indicated that the project comes within the efforts to develop the grain sector and overcome the effects of neglect and destruction it suffered during the years of war, by enhancing production infrastructure efficiency and improving production quality.

The Syrian Grain Authority had previously signed a memorandum of understanding with Faz Investment Company on May 12 to launch a long-term strategic partnership to develop and operate a number of the Authority's mills in various governorates.
