The Health Directorate in the Damascus countryside has reopened the intensive care unit at Jaramana National Hospital, after a suspension lasting 14 years, coinciding with the introduction of a CT scanner to the hospital, in a move aimed at improving the health situation and expanding the scope of medical services provided.
Bassam Abu Hamda, director of Jaramana National Hospital, clarified that the CT scanner is currently undergoing testing and has begun receiving patients for imaging without contrast, noting that the expected capacity of the device ranges between 20 and 25 patients daily, according to the recommendations of the company supervising its installation, ensuring its continuous operation and maintenance.
Abu Hamda pointed out that imaging with the device is performed free of charge, noting that patient reception is coordinated with the radiology department and doctors, and appointments are determined according to need and available capacities, with necessary procedures to be completed later for imaging with contrast.
He noted that the hospital includes general surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, and gynecology and obstetrics departments, in addition to a dialysis department that provides its services free of charge, currently comprising five beds, with the possibility of increasing the number to seven. He indicated that the total capacity of the hospital ranges between 25 and 30 beds, while the pediatric department has not yet been activated due to a shortage of necessary staff.
For his part, Dr. Moaz Al-Sheikh, a neurology specialist and head of the intensive care and emergency department at the hospital, clarified that the department is currently equipped to receive two patients, with the possibility of expanding it in the future by adding a bed and other equipment according to available capacities, explaining that it includes the basic facilities necessary to provide care to patients, including ventilators and drug infusion pumps.
The Ministry of Health continues to rehabilitate health facilities in the Damascus countryside, activate suspended departments, and equip hospitals with necessary facilities and staff, aiming to improve medical services and reduce the burden of travel on residents, especially in remote areas.
