Marhaf Daqas, Director of the Industrial Development and Technical Development Center at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, confirmed that the launch of the Syrian Industrial Observatory project aims to build an accurate and comprehensive database on the state of local industry. This project comes within the framework of the Ministry's direction to identify production capacities and obstacles facing industrial establishments, thereby enabling the setting of clear development priorities and formulating policies based on realistic indicators.
For his part, Daqas indicated that the work to launch the Observatory begins with implementing a comprehensive industrial survey targeting various sectors and levels, starting from strategic and large establishments up to the artisanal sector. This survey aims to form a realistic and updated picture of the sector's production capacities and its actual needs, by preparing an electronic platform and work teams distributed across governorates to collect data according to forms designed for each sector.
He added that the survey will cover various stages of the production process, from raw materials to the final product, allowing for the precise characterization of value chains and monitoring gaps that hinder production. It will also identify the needs of establishments for materials, energy, labor, and technology, with a focus on analyzing the reasons for not fully utilizing available capacities and enhancing integration among local industries.
Daqas clarified that the food sector takes priority within the survey work due to its close link to agricultural production, emphasizing the importance of coordination with the Ministries of Agriculture and Energy to address production gaps. He affirmed that the success of the project requires broad cooperation from establishments and the provision of accurate data to build a reliable information base that supports decision-makers in evaluating policies and monitoring the impact of programs on the performance of the industrial sector.
