Syrian Ministry of Health Participates in WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Meetings in Cairo
Syrian health officials attended the 73rd EMRO committee meetings in Cairo to discuss health strategies and funding.

The Syrian Ministry of Health participated in the 73rd session of the World Health Organization's Eastern Mediterranean Regional Committee meetings, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with the participation of health ministers and representatives of member states, under the slogan "Together for a Healthier Future: Action, Access, and Equity."

Deputy Minister of Health for Health Affairs Hussein al-Khatib emphasized, during a session on the approach to eliminating infectious diseases, that implementation must be based on national leadership that takes into account differing epidemiological conditions and resources, linking integration with the readiness of primary care services and their staff, while measuring success by actual outcomes and continuity of treatment.

For his part, Director of Planning and Statistics in the Ministry, Alaa Abidin, clarified in a session on health financing that financing is an integrated system for mobilizing, allocating, and spending resources efficiently, according to three priorities that include implementation pathways considering the conditions of countries affected by conflicts, and aligning external funding with national priorities.

Director of Health in Tartous Governorate, Alaa al-Bruhum, pointed out in a session on supporting emergency response the necessity of transitioning from capacity assessment to measurable improvements, enhancing integration between surveillance, laboratories, and emergencies, and linking gaps to sustainable funding and regional cooperation that ensures the protection of facilities and workers, and continuity of services during crises.
