The specialized course "Producing Scientific Research in the Humanities" kicked off today, Sunday, at the Syrian National Library in Damascus. Organized by the library under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, it runs until October 28, with wide participation from researchers, academics, and postgraduate students.
The course, held daily from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, includes a series of specialized lectures delivered by a select group of professors and academics. Topics cover the concepts and tools of scientific research, methods for collecting and documenting information, and academic standards for writing and publishing stages.
For his part, Director General of the Syrian National Library, Dr. Saeed Hijazi, delivered a lecture titled "Fundamentals and Concepts of Scientific Research." He outlined the logic of scientific research and the distinction between information collection and knowledge production. Dr. Hijazi emphasized that genuine scientific research requires objective conditions based on critical analysis, clear methodology, and precise evidence.
Dr. Hijazi noted that scientific knowledge is inherently subject to examination and review, stressing the necessity of distinguishing between personal opinion and scientific argument. He highlighted the importance of grounding studies on a clear problem and a proven knowledge gap. He also shed light on the methodological interconnection between the problem, questions, theoretical framework, and results to ensure research quality.
For his part, Dr. Muslim Tayba delivered the second lecture, titled "The Structure of Scientific Research." He covered the steps of building research, from selecting the title and formulating the problem and objectives, to preparing the plan and dividing chapters and sections. Dr. Tayba focused on the importance of achieving methodological consistency and balance among the research components.
The course comes within the framework of the Syrian National Library's commitment to providing an interactive training environment that enables researchers to master modern academic tools. Its activities are scheduled to continue in the coming days, covering data collection methods, research evaluation standards, and publication stages in peer-reviewed journals.
