The Syrian Writers Union is participating in the proceedings of the General Union of Arab Writers and Authors meeting, hosted by the Libyan city of Benghazi over two days. The event brings together heads of Arab writers unions, representatives of literary, intellectual, and cultural associations and bodies, as well as a number of advisors and experts.
The meeting aims to explore ways to enhance joint Arab cultural work, develop cooperation and coordination between writers and authors unions and literary and cultural institutions in the Arab homeland, thereby contributing to expanding partnership areas and strengthening communication among Arab intellectuals.
Activating Joint Arab Cultural Work
Dr. Ahmed Jasim Al-Hussein, President of the Syrian Writers Union, clarified in a statement to SANA that the Syrian participation comes within the framework of the Union's periodic involvement in the General Union of Arab Writers and Authors meetings. He noted that the meeting discusses a number of issues, foremost among them activating joint Arab cultural work, organizing more joint cultural activities and events, and holding an Arab cultural summit.
Al-Hussein added that the formation of a committee for coordination between Arab unions regarding cultural activities and events was discussed, alongside signing cultural cooperation agreements between unions. This aims to enhance communication and coordination among them and open the door for implementing joint programs serving Arab literature, thought, and culture.
Exchange of Publications and Supporting Literary Links
The meeting also discussed, according to Al-Hussein, the possibility of exchanging literary and intellectual publications and organizing joint conferences and events. This contributes to enhancing Arab cultural presence and exchanging expertise and experiences among relevant institutions.
The meeting witnessed the participation of representatives from literary and cultural unions and associations from Algeria, Mauritania, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Yemen, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq. This takes place within a gathering uniting the heads of Arab literary, intellectual, and cultural unions and associations to discuss agenda items and coordinate joint efforts.
Periodic Meetings to Enhance Arab Coordination
The proceedings of the General Union of Arab Writers and Authors meeting conclude today, Thursday, at the Rebal Tourist Hotel in the Al-Fwayhat area of Benghazi.
This meeting is held within the periodic meetings of the General Union of Arab Writers and Authors, which are organized two to three times a year. The goal is to follow up on Arab cultural work issues, develop cooperation mechanisms among member unions, and expand coordination areas in cultural activities and initiatives.
The General Union of Arab Writers and Authors is one of the Arab organizations affiliated with the Arab League. It was established in the 1960s as a comprehensive framework for Arab writers unions, literary associations, and Arab writers and authors, enabling the coordination of efforts and unification of initiatives aimed at serving Arab culture and enhancing its presence.
