Technical teams from the Syrian Petroleum Company have contained an oil leak in the Hida area in western Homs, three days after an attack on a fuel derivatives pipeline. The teams successfully isolated the damaged section and reduced pressure in preparation for completing repairs and fully returning the line to service.
Engineer Hamoudi Al-Sarour, responsible for pipeline maintenance, security, and protection, stated that teams immediately closed valves before and after the attack site upon receiving the report. He noted that high pressure and the nature of gasoline made treatment operations more sensitive, requiring the material to be redirected to a specific point and discharged into tankers to control the leak.
Al-Sarour highlighted that three cases of suffocation were recorded during the work, and the victims were transported to the hospital despite the use of protective equipment. He confirmed that removing equipment and performing final repairs require reducing pressure to a safe level, with work continuing around the clock. Maintenance work is expected to be completed within one or two days, depending on technical conditions.
He explained that the attack occurred last Thursday, when teams arrived at 4:30 AM and discovered a three-inch valve installed on a main 24-inch pipeline. Civil Defense began repair operations last Thursday, cutting off the Homs-Tartus highway and diverting traffic to alternative routes.
