Syrian security sources revealed that the Syrian government is working hard to establish a new intelligence agency under the name of the "National Security Bureau".
The sources told Al-Modon newspaper that the office's function will be limited to following up on issues related to the country's national security, such as prosecuting the remnants of the former regime, monitoring any suspicious security movement at the national level, and leading and coordinating security departments.
The new security apparatus has not yet been officially announced, pending the completion of preparations, which include structuring departments and offices, recruiting cadres, and creating security "data" that includes all security files and national security issues.

A source said that the main candidate to take over the management of this agency is the current Minister of Interior, Anas Khattab, who will officially assume the position after a ministerial reshuffle, provided that the Ministry of Interior will take over the management of the security of the Damascus countryside, Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Dalati, or the Deputy Minister of Interior, Maj. Gen. Abdel Qader Al-Tahhan, as he put it.
A source said that the new agency attracts intellectuals, researchers and research assistants with high salaries, in order to benefit from their expertise and form qualified and professional departments, pointing out that many employees of Syrian strategic research centers that were opposed to the former regime have joined the office.
The work of the former Syrian National Security Bureau was officially terminated on December 8, 2024, following the fall of the regime, and it coordinates between the four main branches and intelligence agencies during the era of the former regime, namely (Military Security, Political Security, Air Force Intelligence, and State Security).
