The Syrian Arab Standards and Metrology Organization, represented by its director Yasser Alawi, participated in a joint virtual seminar organized by the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, on the topic of quality infrastructure for sustainable development and enabling small and medium enterprises to access financing.
The Authority, via its Telegram channel on Thursday, clarified that the seminar brought together various entities and institutions concerned with quality infrastructure, financing, and supporting the business sector in member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Discussing the Role of the Quality System
The seminar discussed the role of the quality system and financing mechanisms in enhancing the creditworthiness of small and medium enterprises, enabling them to access regional and international markets, thereby supporting intra-trade and integration into global markets and achieving sustainable development goals.
Ways to Enhance Competitiveness
The seminar also addressed ways to leverage quality infrastructure to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises and strengthen their industrial resilience, alongside examining challenges related to traditional and Islamic financing, and mechanisms for developing financing solutions that contribute to supporting the growth of these enterprises.
The Authority emphasized that its participation in the seminar reflects its keenness to strengthen its presence at specialized regional and international events, exchange expertise in the fields of standards and quality, and support the competitiveness of institutions and enterprises.
Previous Training Programs
Last August, the Syrian Arab Standards and Metrology Organization launched a training program to build the capacities of owners of establishments operating in the tourism sector, particularly halal restaurants and services, in cooperation with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries and the Standing Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
