Tartous Haraj Directorate Implements Awareness Activities to Instill Environmental Culture Among Students
Tartous Haraj Directorate conducts guidance activities in schools to enhance students' environmental awareness and protect natural resources.

The Tartous Haraj Directorate implemented guidance activities in several schools in the governorate, aiming to enhance environmental awareness among the emerging generations, and to introduce students to the importance of forests, biodiversity, and natural reserves, as well as their role in protecting natural resources and preventing fires and practices that threaten vegetation cover.

The activities included two awareness sessions conducted by the Biodiversity Department and the Reserves Administration for students at "Sa'in" school in the Dericik area and "Al-Salib" school in the Safita area. These sessions covered the environmental benefits of forests and their role in maintaining ecological balance, alongside introducing tree species, herbaceous plants, wild animals, and birds found in the Sarsitan Reserve, using illustrative images that help simplify information and enhance student interaction with it.

Instilling Environmental Behavior from a Young Age

The Director of Agriculture in Tartous, Dr. Muhammad Ahmad, stated in an interview with SANA on Monday that the Directorate conducts awareness sessions and guidance activities targeting children and students to enhance environmental awareness and highlight the importance of forests, biodiversity, and ways to protect them. Ahmad explained that the programs include raising awareness about the dangers of fires, illegal logging, random firewood collection, and littering, while encouraging students to plant trees, maintain forest cleanliness, and protect living organisms.

Ahmad pointed out that the plan is implemented in coordination with the Directorate of Education and school administrations, covering both rural and urban areas through practical activities, cleanliness campaigns, and illustrative materials. The goal is to transform environmental knowledge into practical behavior that enhances students' sense of responsibility toward nature. These activities are part of efforts to spread environmental culture within the school community and introduce emerging generations to the importance of forests, biodiversity, and natural reserves, reinforcing practices that contribute to preserving natural resources and mitigating threats to them.
