The Referral, Ambulance, and Emergency Department at the Tartus Health Directorate implemented a specialized training course for the ambulance and emergency system personnel at Baniyas Hospital, aiming to enhance staff readiness and improve their efficiency in handling critical cases and saving lives. The course covered topics on primary and secondary assessment of the injured, and management of trauma cases, contributing to reducing complications during the golden hour for saving the injured.
For his part, the Department Director, Majd al-Din Saloum, clarified that the training is part of efforts to develop ambulance services and transition to advanced medical ambulance care, by adopting rapid assessment and standardizing work protocols. Saloum pointed out that the increasing pressure on the system requires keeping pace with developments in emergency medicine and enhancing practical training using medical simulation tools, especially in managing the airway and monitoring vital signs.
Saloum added that the Department organized nine specialized courses in recent months, benefiting more than 60 paramedics, as part of a sustainable monthly training plan, alongside training trainers and coordinating with the Saudi Red Crescent to hold specialized courses in emergencies and disasters. These efforts come within the framework of the Tartus Health Directorate’s plan to improve response speed to critical cases and reduce injury complications.
For his part, Sarmed Ali, the Training and Rehabilitation Officer in the Department, stated that the course included training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life support for adults and children, and dealing with hemorrhages, fractures, and head and spinal cord injuries. He noted that providing appropriate training tools contributes to expanding programs to include practical training on advanced life support and enhancing the specialized skills of paramedic staff.
In the same context, the second annual conference on primary healthcare, organized by UOSSM in Tartus on October 14, in cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Higher Education and Scientific Research, discussed ways to develop primary healthcare services and enhance their quality.
