Tax Authority Board Discusses IMF Recommendations and Local Administration Fees
The Tax Authority Board reviewed the International Monetary Fund's latest recommendations on tax disclosure, voluntary compliance, and coordination with anti-money laundering efforts, alongside discussions on local administration fees and tax system reforms.

The Board of Directors of the General Authority for Taxes and Fees discussed a number of axes related to tax work during its meeting held today, Thursday, under the chairmanship of Minister of Finance Yasser Barnea. The discussions focused primarily on the latest recommendations submitted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In this context, the Fund's recommendations relate to several issues, including tax disclosure, enhancing voluntary compliance, and coordination with the Anti-Money Laundering Authority. Additionally, the recommendations involve reviewing the currently enforced Investment Law and its tax incentives, and reconsidering them in light of the new tax system.

Activation of Finance Directorates

Participants in the meeting, held at the headquarters of the General Authority for Taxes and Fees, discussed the plan to open and reactivate the work of some Finance Directorates in affected areas. This aims to alleviate the burdens on taxpayers.

The Board's meeting also discussed local administration fees and the necessity of forming a joint committee from the Ministry of Finance and the General Authority for Taxes and Fees to re-examine these fees, thereby ensuring fairness in their application.

Development of the Tax System

The Board was briefed on the progress achieved within the plan to complete costs for 2025 and previous years, the amendment of the law combating tax evasion, and the criteria for determining the category of large taxpayers.

The Board followed up on the work of the joint committee recently formed by technical and specialized staff from the General Authority for Taxes and Fees and the General Authority for Ports and Customs. The committee's goal is to exchange technical and specialized information and enhance coordination between the two entities.

Furthermore, progress was reviewed regarding the recruitment plan and the training program for new employees. Last August, Minister of Finance Yasser Barnea discussed with a specialized IMF mission on tax policies the draft tax laws currently being prepared and developed, ensuring they align with the requirements of the current stage and economic reform priorities.
