Workshops under the Directorate of Technical Services in Raqqa Governorate completed, on Tuesday, emergency works to address damages caused by rains and floods on several roads, bridges, and culverts, aiming to restore traffic flow and mitigate risks to citizens, under the direction of the Governorate's General Secretariat.
The works included opening damaged roads, removing sediments and soil, and clearing and unclogging culverts at several sites, most notably the Al-Salmani Bridge, the Mansoura-Rasafa road, the Al-Kharar Bridge in the Al-Ghanim Al-Ali area, the Raqqa-Suluk road at the Sheikh Hassan site, as well as the Rutla Bridge, bridges and culverts within the Al-Jarneh Municipality, and a bridge under the jurisdiction of the Al-Rashid Municipal Council at the Andalus Farm site.
Mobilization of personnel and machinery
Khaled Al-Ali, head of the Machinery Department at the Directorate of Technical Services in Raqqa, told SANA correspondent that the Directorate mobilized its personnel and machinery since the onset of the rainstorm, placing them in the first phase under the disposal of the Disaster and Emergency Management to contribute to responding to the repercussions of floods.
For his part, Al-Ali noted that workshops began implementing emergency interventions at damaged sites the following day, with efforts focused on opening vital roads, securing traffic flow, and removing obstacles left by floods, adding that work continued at other sites to complete interventions in affected areas.
Emergency plan and engineering studies
He added that the Directorate prepared an emergency plan to address damages according to priorities and degree of need, pending the completion of necessary engineering studies to assess the extent of damages and determine appropriate technical solutions to permanently rehabilitate damaged sites.
Raqqa Governorate witnessed heavy rainfall in late October last year, which caused floods and inundations that damaged several roads, bridges, and culverts, leading to the closure of main and secondary roads and taking some crossings out of service, while concerned authorities mobilized their teams and machinery to carry out rescue operations, drain water, open damaged roads, and address damages.
