Last night and at dawn on Sunday, June 28, Israeli occupation forces penetrated deep into the Yarmouk Basin area in the western countryside of Daraa.
Syrian sources and local sources said that the incursion was carried out through two field tracks, where a force consisting of 4 military vehicles set off from the so-called "Al-Jazeera" barracks towards the town of Ma'ariyah and reached the village of Abdeen and the area of Talat al-Mughar.
According to the sources, a second force of 6 vehicles set off from the gate of "Tal Abu al-Ghithar" to penetrate towards Wadi al-Raqqad and reach the village of Jamla, where it was later stationed inside the company of Jumla known as the (Al-Wadi Company).
The sources indicated that the Israeli occupation forces set up tents in Tal al-Maghr, west of the village of Abdeen in the area of the Yarmouk basin , and fired bullets and flares and targeted farmers near the hill after a force consisting of 4 troop carriers moved from the Jazeera barracks towards the area.
Deploying snipers and shelling of territory
Local sources pointed out that the occupation soldiers operated laser lighting devices and deployed snipers in the area, followed by heavy fire from a heavy machine gun that targeted the surrounding agricultural lands to terrorize farmers and prevent them from plowing their lands.
Recent developments on the ground have shown an accelerated pace of Israeli incursions through sequential monitoring of violations over the past 72 hours:
Friday, June 26, 6 separate incursions as 19 Israeli military vehicles infiltrated at once on Friday evening, including 3 towns in the countryside of Daraa and Quneitra. The incursion included raids and searches of citizens' homes, the erection of temporary military checkpoints, and the interrogation of local residents in conjunction with intensive drone flights.
On Saturday, June 27, a force of 8 military vehicles stormed the town of Jumla and spread among its residential neighborhoods, raiding and searching houses. This came just one day after 7 vehicles entered the village of Maaria and set up a military checkpoint east of the mosque to interrogate passers-by and search the perimeter.
There has been no official comment or statement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense so far.
Israel boasts of its violations
The Israeli occupation army announced, through an official statement by its spokesman, that its ground forces killed a number of what it called "militants" inside what it called the "security zone in southern Syria", adding that ground operations will continue in this area under the pretext of "removing any threats to Israelis.
Local and human rights sources expressed growing fears that house raids, detention and interrogation of civilians, and the erection of temporary checkpoints will become a consistent Israeli policy on the ground.
The sources pointed out that the occupation is no longer satisfied with aerial violations through drones and reconnaissance planes, but has become imposing a manned ground presence that directly threatens the security of Syrian border villages and towns.
These continuous attacks are represented in the implementation of arbitrary raids and arrests against Syrians, extensive razing of agricultural lands, destruction of property, and the firing of shells and fire towards the Syrian depth, in a clear and continuous violation of international lines.
UNDOF's Position on Israeli Incursions
The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) merely monitors and documents Israeli violations, without any direct military intervention, in compliance with the limits of its legal mandate, which limits its role to monitoring and reporting only. This approach reflects the nature of its mission, which operates under Chapter VI of the UN Charter, which brings its role closer to mediation and supervision than to the enforcement of the obligation to force.
UNDOF operates under Security Council Resolution 350 of 1974, a protocol mandate that does not give peacekeepers coercive powers or the ability to confront Israeli military vehicles infiltrating the zone of separation. Therefore, its role is limited to monitoring compliance with the Alpha Line and recording any breaches.
