On Wednesday, June 24, Israeli occupation forces infiltrated several areas in the southern countryside of Quneitra, carried out searches and abducted a person during the establishment of a temporary military checkpoint, before withdrawing from one of the areas, in conjunction with the entry of another force into the village of Al-Masheida.
Local sources told "Syrian News" that an Israeli force consisting of 4 military vehicles penetrated the road connecting the village of Al-Muallaqa and the southern town of Ghadeer Al-Bustan, set up a temporary military checkpoint and stopped passers-by, before kidnapping a resident while he was passing through the area.
The sources added that another patrol of the occupation, which included 3 military vehicles, penetrated west of the town of Al-Rafid, and searched two houses without recording any arrests, before leaving the area.
In a related context, an Israeli military force consisting of 7 vehicles to transport soldiers infiltrated the village of Al-Masheida in the southern countryside of Quneitra, without receiving confirmed information about the implementation of arrests or raids.
The areas of the southern countryside of Quneitra are witnessing repeated Israeli incursions from time to time, interspersed with searches and arrests of residents, which raises fears and concerns of the residents of the area.
Broad condemnation in the Security Council of Israeli incursions
During its official session held on Monday, June 22, the UN Security Council witnessed a broad consensus to condemn the Israeli military incursions and violations in southern Syria and the countryside of Quneitra, amid UN and international warnings of their repercussions on regional stability and the political and humanitarian path in the country.
The acting head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Andrika Rattuati, explained that repeated Israeli operations have exacerbated human suffering, displaced Syrian families and prevented access to basic services and aid, while UN Deputy Envoy Claudio Cordone considered the near-daily incursions to pose a direct threat to the transition and stabilization efforts.
Britain and France stressed the need to stop the aggression immediately, reaffirming that the Golan is occupied Syrian territory, while Russia and China blamed Israel for destabilization, stressing that its military presence in the separation zone lacks any legal basis.
For its part, Saudi Arabia (on behalf of the Arab Group) and Turkey called for the cessation of operations and immediate withdrawal from the occupied Syrian territories, and Denmark, Panama and Pakistan unanimously condemned the violations, calling on Israel to strictly abide by the 1974 disengagement agreement and withdraw from the areas in which it has infiltrated, while the US envoy did not address this in her statement.
UNDOF receives lists of names of detainees
On Friday, June 19, dozens of residents of the Quneitra countryside and the families of Syrian detainees handed over an official file to the ANDUF Forces Command at its headquarters in the area of the Spring of Fawwar, which includes documented lists of 47 detainees abducted by the Israeli forces during their repeated ground incursions into border villages since late 2024.
The handover of the file came during a broad protest aimed at pressuring the United Nations to reveal the fate of the abductees, as the list included the names of the detainees and their dates of detention, including women, children and sheep herders who were taken from inside Syrian territory to detention centers in the occupied Golan and inside Israel.
UNDOF officials pledged to the protesters to submit the lists directly to the UN Secretary-General, and to work through diplomatic channels to pressure the occupation authorities to allow humanitarian organizations, especially the International Red Cross, to visit the detainees and check on their health conditions.
UNDOF is working to secure farmers' access to their lands during the harvest season, through field arrangements that reduce the risk of being targeted by bullets or smoke bombs, after meetings with farmers' representatives in and around Rafid.
While these moves give residents some reassurance, local officials assert that UNDOF's monitoring mandate limits its ability to stop Israeli incursions completely.
