Thunderstorms and strong winds in Aleppo cause floods and road closures
Severe weather in Aleppo triggers floods, road closures, and safety warnings.

Widespread parts of Aleppo Governorate are experiencing thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds, which have caused floods, flash floods, wadi flows, and the closure of some roads. Aleppo Governorate, via its channel on the Telegram app today Wednesday, warned of the dangers of the current weather conditions, urging residents to follow a series of preventive measures to ensure their safety.

For its part, the Early Warning and Preparedness Department at the Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management called for avoiding low-lying areas and wadi courses, staying away from flash floods or filming them, and keeping children, the elderly, and people with disabilities away from them. It also warned against crossing waterways or bridges experiencing strong currents, regardless of how low the water level appears, emphasizing the importance of adhering to general safety instructions.

The ministry pointed out the necessity of avoiding agricultural roads submerged in water or hail, reducing speed during heavy rains, and not parking cars in low-lying areas or near watercourses. It also advised staying away from isolated trees, electricity towers, and heights, avoiding photography and using mobile phones in open areas during thunderstorms, and disconnecting sensitive electrical devices and solar power systems according to safety procedures.

In the same context, the provinces of Raqqa, Al-Hasakah, and Deir Ezzor, in addition to areas in eastern Homs, Hama, and Aleppo, are experiencing thunderstorm rainfall accompanied by hail and strong downdraft winds. This is due to the atmospheric disturbance currently affecting Syria, which has led to floods, flash floods, wadi flows, and the cutting of several roads in those areas.
