Tourism Minister Mazen al-Salihani confirmed that Syria's official accession to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT), under the UN Tourism organization, represents an important step in developing the Syrian tourism system and aligning it with international standards to protect visitors and safeguard their rights.
Minister al-Salihani clarified, in a statement to SANA on Tuesday, that the Ministry's ambition is not limited to attracting more visitors, but includes providing a safe, reliable, and integrated tourism experience based on clear rights, service quality, and the readiness of institutions to respond to visitor needs. He explained that joining the Code provides a framework for translating these priorities into clear practices and standards throughout the visitor's journey.
Al-Salihani added that the growing demand to visit Syria doubles the responsibility to develop services, enhance the readiness of tourism facilities, and strengthen coordination among relevant authorities. He pointed out that visitor confidence is not only linked to the tourism assets of the destination, but also to the quality of their experience and their sense of reassurance and care throughout their trip.
He noted that the coming phase will see efforts to utilize the principles of the Code in developing the regulatory and service frameworks of the sector, in cooperation with government entities and private sector partners, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the Syrian destination and consolidating its position in international tourism markets.
Minister al-Salihani praised the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, which resulted in Syria's accession to the Code, commending its role in achieving this important step for the national tourism sector.
Earlier today, Saad Baroud, Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, announced that the Arab Republic of Syria has officially acceded to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists under UN Tourism, which supports the competitive advantage of the national tourism sector and elevates Syria's classification as a safe and reliable destination among international tourist destinations.
