A training course to prepare facilitators for farmers' field schools, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), launched today, Sunday, at the Deir Ezzor Agriculture Directorate, with the participation of 25 trainees from the technical agricultural staff in the directorate. The course aims to develop participants' skills in agricultural extension, and transfer knowledge and modern practices to farmers, thereby contributing to improving production quality and raising its efficiency.
The course includes theoretical and practical training on supervising farmers' field schools, which rely on applied learning in fields, and introducing farmers to agricultural practices suitable for local conditions. The course lasts for five days, consisting of three days of theory and two days of practical work in the fields, with participants undergoing a test at the end to select the facilitators who will supervise the implementation of the farmers' field schools.
Aliya Al-Hamash, a trainer accredited by the FAO in the field of farmers' field schools, clarified that the course aims to prepare 25 trainees from technical staff to become field facilitators, capable of transferring knowledge and modern agricultural practices to farmers in their fields. She emphasized that the program includes theoretical and field training followed by a test to select those qualified to facilitate the field schools, which will be implemented later, allowing farmers to acquire agricultural experiences and applications directly.
For her part, Buthayna Al-Assaf, head of the Al-Tayba extension unit, stated that training facilitators aims to enable them to work directly with farmers in the fields through interaction and applying modern curricula and benefiting from advanced agricultural expertise. She noted that this helps farmers reduce costs and achieve higher productivity, within the framework of efforts to reintegrate agricultural staff into the agricultural sector and utilize their expertise to support developmental work in the governorate.
