The Ministry of Transport issued a decision extending the permission to increase the weight by one ton on the established weight per single axle for trucks, as recorded in the vehicle’s circulation license, provided that the total weight of the vehicle does not exceed 60 tons, until December 31, 2026.
For his part, Khaled Kassaha, Director of the Freight Transport Regulation Directorate at the Ministry of Transport, clarified that the decision aims to accommodate the conditions of workers in the land transport and shipping sector, and to support the continuity of work for truck owners and drivers amid the burdens they face, thereby contributing to maintaining freight transport activity and meeting the needs of this sector.
Kassaha pointed out that continuing this measure aims to overcome difficulties facing freight transport movements and achieve greater flexibility in transport operations, ensuring smooth work and continuous delivery of materials to their destinations, while adhering to the total weight specified in the decision.
He added that the decision is based on Decision No. 526 issued on July 9, 2026, which grants wheat-carrying trucks a 25 percent increase on permitted loads, noting that the specified allowance remains in effect until the end of the current year.
Previously, on February 10, the Freight Transport Regulation Directorate issued an administrative order mandating the adoption of actual axles recorded in the vehicle’s circulation license, excluding virtual axles, and allowing a one-ton increase on the established weight for each axle, provided the total vehicle weight does not exceed 60 tons.
The administrative order was issued at the time due to the age of most trucks and their high tare weight, and pending the issuance of a replacement law to address this issue, with the aim of facilitating the smooth flow of freight transport, avoiding obstacles and delays in reaching destinations, and ensuring work proceeds in accordance with public interest requirements.
