Tripartite Mechanism Affirms Libyan Political Solution Stems from People's Will
Foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia condemn external interventions and support simultaneous elections.

Affirmation of Sovereignty and Popular Will

The Tripartite Mechanism of Libya's neighboring countries, in a joint statement issued from a meeting held in Algiers, affirmed that the political solution in Libya must stem from the will of the Libyan people and their national consensus. The ministers stressed that this solution must guarantee the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Libyan state, emphasizing that the political process must be entirely led and owned by Libyans.

UN Coordination and Support

This affirmation came during a meeting bringing together the foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia, who expressed their full support for UN efforts and international initiatives aimed at organizing free and fair simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections within an agreed constitutional and legal framework. The ministers pointed out the importance of coordinating regional and international efforts to support an inclusive Libyan political process facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), contributing to the complete conclusion of transitional phases.

Financial Assets and Reconciliation

The ministers stressed the necessity of achieving national reconciliation among the Libyan people and supporting the efforts of competent Libyan authorities and the African Union under UN patronage. They also emphasized the importance of safeguarding Libyan financial assets frozen abroad, estimated by Libyan officials at around $200 billion, and ensuring their proper management by international financial institutions in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Rejection of External Interventions

The ministers reiterated their countries' stance rejecting all forms of external intervention in Libyan affairs, describing them as the main cause of prolonging the crisis and deepening divisions. They highlighted the historical responsibility of the neighboring countries' mechanism in supporting the Libyan political process, amid the ongoing political crisis between two competing governments managing different parts of the country for years.
