Trump and Netanyahu Discussed Possibility of New Attack on Iran
The American website Axios reported that President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the possibility of launching a new attack on Iran, ahead of the general elections in Israel and the US Congressional midterm elections.

The American website Axios reported that President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the possibility of launching a new attack on Iran, ahead of the general elections in Israel and the US Congressional midterm elections.

On Tuesday, the website cited informed sources stating that Trump and Netanyahu held a call last week, discussing the possibility of an attack on Iran before the Israeli electoral contest on October 27 and the American one on November 3 next.

According to sources, Netanyahu expressed concerns during the call regarding intelligence indicating that Iran is taking "concerning" steps to rebuild its nuclear program.

Axios noted that the call took place before Trump announced he would not launch an attack on Iran before the scheduled midterm elections, adding that the US and Israeli militaries are on alert in anticipation of a potential change in the US President's stance.

The website quoted a US source, who requested anonymity, as saying: "It seems Bibi (Netanyahu) wants to move again. He has spoken with Trump about this matter several times, and Trump told him: 'It's up to you, Bibi, get ready.' But in reality, there is no firm commitment; saying 'get ready' could mean now, later, or perhaps it won't happen at all."

The source indicated that Trump and Netanyahu held several calls over the past two weeks regarding continuing attacks on Iran, clarifying that Netanyahu discussed targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities with Trump.

An Israeli official stated that Trump was initially supportive of continuing the attacks but became more cautious later, while a US official said his stance on the issue fluctuates between support and backing down.

Officials added that Netanyahu informed his advisors during recent meetings that Trump had spoken about the possibility of launching new attacks on Iran and asked Israel to participate if they were to be carried out.

Sources mentioned that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is among the strongest supporters of continuing attacks on Iran, while many of Trump's advisors currently favor continuing economic pressure on Tehran.

Sources stated that Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir discussed with his US counterpart Dan Caine the possibility of launching large-scale attacks on Iran in the coming three weeks.

It added that Zamir pointed out that resuming the war during this period could lead to the postponement of elections in Israel, given that Iran will likely respond to any attack targeting it.

Regarding talks between the US and Iran, sources told the website that negotiations have not completely stopped, "but it cannot be said they are fully ongoing either."

On the other hand, a White House official told the website that Trump and Netanyahu did not discuss the issue of continuing attacks on Iran.

The official added: "Trump said he would not launch an attack on Iran before the midterm elections."

For his part, Netanyahu's office said in a statement: "The Prime Minister continues constant communication with President Trump and senior US officials, and we do not comment on this matter."

On June 13, 2025, a military confrontation erupted between Israel and Iran that lasted 12 days, during which Tel Aviv attacked Iranian nuclear facilities, including Natanz and Fordow, along with other military sites.

Tehran responded by launching waves of ballistic missiles and drones towards Israeli cities and bases.

On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched a war on Iran, with its first strike resulting in the killing of prominent leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, while negotiations between the two sides to reach a ceasefire remain stalled.
